Thursday 26th March 2009

Last Friday some of the children at Next Generation planted some vegetable seeds and now some of them are starting to sprout! How exciting!!!! The children chose from broccoflower, cauliflower, broad beans and red cabbage. They scooped the soil into the pots and added their seeds. The seeds have been carefully watered and loved and are now ready to take home and plant. I wonder who will grow the biggest and tastiest vegetables and who will eat their vegies all up.

Monday 23rd March 2009

Lunch time at Next Generation is definately one of the busiest and loudest times of the day. The children are all excited, comparing food, chatting, laughing and even eating! Some children are lucky enough to have hot food too! As parents we know how hard it can be to be inspired when filling up your child's lunchbox. So we went on a search and found some websites like http://www.kidspot.co.nz/subsection+125+Back%20to%20school-Lunch-box.htm that may help inspire you...http://www.cpublichealth.co.nz/files/NUT0007n.pdf

Thursday 18th March 2009

Today I had lots of help from some children to put together this photo story. Do you recognise any of the voices? We would love to hear your comments about these clever children.

How to publish a learning story page

For those of you who would like to set up a page on your blog such as ours on 17th March. We use photos, text, background and so forth in a powerpoint slide. We then save our completed powerpoint presentation as a jpeg and upload this to our blog just as you would for a normal photo (that is the square picture that resembles a landscape) on your create a post page. We can print these powerpoints either as a powerpoint or a jpeg although I tend to find them of a better quality when they are printed straight from a powerpoint presentation. Hopefully this helps.

Monarch Caterpillar turning into a cocoon

Joel was very interested to see that a caterpiller on our plant yesterday morning was a cocoon when he went home last night, so Joel and his mum went home last night and investigated how it happened. Joel emailed us a you tube video to share with all his friends. Thanks Michelle and Joel

Thursday 1oth March 2009

WOW!!!!! Today we visited Joel's e-portfolio on our big screen. Joel's Mum Michelle has been very busy-she has put together a smilebox of Joel on his family farm. It was so exciting to see how Joel spends his weekends.
Would you like to share some of your child's experiences with their friends at Next Generation? I challenge you to add some news onto your child's e-portfolio.
